Post #14 (Final Post) of Sarah’s Post-It Note Inspirations Series

God created us to have emotions, to feel things, to be moved. That’s one reason why people are so interesting, because we can all have our own emotions, and even react in different ways to the same scenarios. Emotions make us do things sometimes that we wish we wouldn’t have.

Even though this is true of people, it is not true of God. I do believe what we do can make God happy, sad or angry, but the real difference here is that this does not change His character. It cannot change His steadfast love for us. Our God is much bigger and greater than that.  

This statement is kind of hard to explain, but really what I am trying to say is we can’t fit God inside of a box that we create. We can’t declare who God really is based off of our own feelings. We can’t even put Him in a corner, because He is there in every aspect of our life. We can’t make God in our image, because He made us in His.

Not being able to fully understand His perfect character should not discourage us, but give us hope, because we can have full confidence that His ways are higher, and that our all-knowing God has a plan.  

Both of these post-it note inspirations really tie back to the idea of God being and doing immeasurably more than we could ever hope for or imagine, thus the title of this post.

Two of my favorite lines from Hilary Scott’s song titled “Still” are: “You’re moving mountains that I don’t even see. You’ve answered my prayer before I even speak.” These words remind me that He is working, even if I can’t see it, and that there are certain things about my future that He has not revealed to me yet for a reason.

With that, I would like to hit home this point again, that God can do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine. Let’s trust Him in that.

Immeasurably More

Post #13 of Sarah's Post-It Note Inspirations Blog Series

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations for ever and ever! Amen. 

Ephesians 3:20-21

Imagine what God could do if you wholeheartedly gave Him the pen to write your story, without any hint of doubt or need for control? This post serves as a reminder that when we allow Him to be the author of our lives, God can and will do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.”

Try opening up a blank notebook page and write what you imagine your life to look like in the next ten years, five years, or even next year. Although this may be a harder task for some of us than others, I believe many of us have an idea of what we want our life to look like. We have goals, aspirations and dreams; things that we want to accomplish in our lives; things that God put on our hearts to do. And this is good, but the question is, how do we start making these a reality?

Many of us will try and take the next steps. With pen in hand, we will start writing the story of our lives, how we will get from point A to point B to point C. But the truth is, no matter what next steps we have planned for our lives, it’s impossible to get it right. Often times, we don’t know the right steps to take. We mess up, fall short, and make mistakes. We get out the eraser and try writing again. We can re-write and make new drafts of our life plan as many times as we want, but the story will never be exactly accurate. We are not capable of perfectly laying out how our story will go, and we shouldn’t have to, God doesn’t want us to. Because when living in Christ, the real story, the one you will actually be living out, will allows be better than anything you could ever draft yourself.

Now, try writing the story of your life so far. Has it happened the way you thought it would? Five years ago did you think you would be where you are today? I’m guessing for many of us, the answer is no. There are pieces of our life right now, good or bad, that we could never plan or dream ourselves. This once again serves as proof that we could never write our stories ourselves, that only God can perfectly craft what will happen in our lives.

That’s why it is important to open up the story of our lives, read our pasts, and thank God for all He has done. It is important to leave the pages ahead blank, and allow God to fill them with His plans that are so much better than our own.

May we live in these truths, that:

His love is deeper than we could ever dive;

His plans are higher than we could ever climb;

He is more incredible than we could ever dream;

And He can do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine.

Allow Him to be the author of your story.
